Low-Carb Alternatives to Super Bowl Favorites

Alex Brecher

Where will you be at kickoff when Super Bowl LIV starts? More to the point, what will you be eating, and how badly will it knock you off your diet? With a few swaps, you can still have the classic flavors that are popular each year during the Super Bowl, but without the excess of calories, carbohydrates, and sugar. The BariatricPal Store has you covered when it comes to healthy, great-tasting choices.

Pizza

It is the nation’s busiest pizza delivery day, but you can do better than ordering a standard delivery or take-out pizza. Instead of getting a pie with 40 grams of carbohydrates and 10 grams of fat per slice (or 160 grams of carbs and 40 grams of fat in a half-pizza), you can easily create your own low-carb, high-protein pizzas within minutes. When you make your own on Low-Carb Pizza Crust, you can start with almost no net carbs on a delicious crust.

Then add chopped tomatoes with basil, olive oil, and garlic, or tomato or pizza sauce without added sugar, and top it with low-fat mozzarella or feta cheese before adding diced vegetables and, if you like, vegetarian sausage or diced chicken breast.

If all you want to do is open a package, try Pizza Tasty Bites with 10 grams of protein and classic pizza flavor. Your guests will love it and you will not need to worry about clean-up.

Chicken Wings

Americans eat over a billion chicken wings on Super Bowl Sunday. It is okay to have your share, but better if you can choose healthier versions. Instead of breaded chicken, chicken with Pork Panko is a low-carb, arguably better-tasting choice. You can also save calories, fat, and sugar by choosing calorie-free dips such as Ranch and Barbecue Sauce. The Pork Panko breading tip also works for onion rings, zucchini sticks, and anything else you want to bread without adding carbs.

Party Mix

A party mix is an easy, but nearly indispensable, part of a casual party. Guests can eat it as soon as they arrive, and continue to eat it throughout the gathering, and it takes almost no effort to make it or clean it up. It tends to be heavy in starches along with the occasional added sugar, but you can make your own high-protein version using products such as ready-to-eat Protein Cereal, Protein Pretzels, and your favorite nuts, peanuts, and even unsweetened chocolate chips.

Brownies

Brownies are so American, so great for parties, and so bad for you with their sugar, butter, and white flour. Protein Brownies are quite a different story, with their boost of protein and almost no sugar or carbs. Still, they taste rich and chocolatey enough to serve on Super Bowl Sunday. We have several varieties, and you can choose from types such as Blondies, Dark Chocolate and Peanut Butter, and traditional. We have them in ready-to-eat packages or easily made mixes.

From kickoff to overtime, The BariatricPal Store has great foods with great nutritional news for anyone on a low-carb, high-protein plan to lose weight. Enjoy the game, enjoy the company, and enjoy the food without any guilt this year.
